A3 vs A4 Printer

A3 and A4 are paper sizes. An A3 multifunction printer handles both sizes, while an A4 desktop cannot print A3 at all.

A3 and A4 refer to standard paper sizes used in Australian offices.

A4 (210 by 297 mm) is the everyday document size, while A3 (297 by 420 mm) is twice as large and handles floor plans, spreadsheets across facing pages, legal exhibits, and signage.

An A3 multifunction printer can print and copy on both A3 and A4 from the same device, whereas an A4 desktop cannot handle A3 at all.

For businesses printing inspection reports, drawings, financial schedules, or council documents, an A3 MFP removes the need for a separate wide-format device.

In short

  • A4 is the everyday size. A3 is double the area.
  • An A3 MFP prints both sizes. An A4 desktop cannot do A3.
  • A3 suits floor plans, exhibits, schedules, and signage.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an A3 printer for my business?
If you regularly print floor plans, inspection reports, legal exhibits, large spreadsheets, or signage, an A3 multifunction printer is usually the better fit because it prints both A3 and A4 from one device. Offices that only print standard documents can run an A4 model. The model picker on each town page helps size the right device.
